House Mate privacy policy

Your home information.
Handled with care.

This policy explains how House Mate handles information when you create, join or use a shared house.

01

Overview

House Mate is a shared-home organiser. It helps housemates manage household information such as chores, bills, events, shared notes and house details.

We do not sell personal information or use House Mate data for advertising.

02

Information you provide

When you use House Mate, you may provide an email address and account details such as your name, profile image or emoji. You may also add house information, chores, expenses, bills, payment records, events, plans, notes, guest-card details, receipts and notification preferences.

If you add an event address or house address, it is shared only with the people you choose to share it with through the relevant House Mate feature. House Mate does not collect your device’s precise location simply because you use an address or open directions.

03

Sharing in a house

House Mate is designed for sharing within a house. Information you add to a house—such as bills, chores, events, shared content and house details—can be visible to the members of that house when the feature is intended to be shared.

Please only add information that you are comfortable sharing with your housemates. Guest-card details, including Wi-Fi or access information, should be shared only with people you trust.

04

Notifications

If you allow notifications, House Mate may send device notifications about activity that matters to your shared house, such as a new bill, payment update, chore, event or invitation. Notification text may include the relevant item, amount or member name so that it is useful.

You can turn notifications off in your device settings at any time.

05

Activity status

Activity Status is optional and is off by default. If you choose to enable it in Settings → Privacy, other members of the same house may see a broad status such as “Active now”, “Recently active” or “Active today”.

House Mate never displays an exact last-seen time. If you turn Activity Status off, other housemates will not see an activity indicator for you.

06

Sign-in, storage and service providers

House Mate uses Google Firebase services to provide account sign-in, shared data synchronisation, notifications and, where you use them, receipt storage. These services process the minimum account, device and content information needed to run those features, such as an account identifier, notification token and shared-house records.

Password-reset emails are sent through the sign-in service. Store purchases are handled by Apple; MateTech does not receive your full payment-card details.

07

Your choices, deletion and support

You can edit or delete many items directly in House Mate, leave a house, manage notification permissions and control Activity Status. Removing the app from a device does not by itself delete information stored for your account or a shared house.

For privacy questions, account help or a request to access, correct or delete personal information where applicable, email support@matetech.uk. Please include “House Mate Privacy” in the subject line and the email address associated with your account. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when House Mate or our privacy practices change. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
